This is sure to be somewhat controversial, depending on your life experiences, past and present. It is my sincere belief, that this post could save someone from possibly breaking the law, or prevent them from doing something very foolish in the name of surging emotions. I hope I can save you some grief, literally.
In spite of Hollywood, in all their glorious ignorance at times, guns in spite of their deadly potential, are a very poor options for personal protection for most people. Firearms are unnecessary in most situations and their use in any situation can have serious consequences.
Did you know that carrying a concealed gun, without a permit in virtually all jurisdictions in this country, is illegal. While it’s true that some states allow permit holders to travel in any part of the state, while others restrict carry only to the jurisdiction that issued the permit. laws vary from state to state. The purpose of personal protection products is to distract and disable the attacker and ESCAPE to get help.
With a firearm as a self defense weapon, in an assault, there is a more than 50 percent chance that “excessive force” could arise, unless the victim is able to prove a life-threatening situation caused the weapon to be used. More than 80 percent of assaults in this country are committed without a weapon of any kind. Should you find yourself in a situation where you have used a gun on an unarmed person, even if you are found not guilty, losing the ensuing lawsuit could be devastating.
Unfortunately, most people don’t know when to shoot and when not to shoot. Police officers in spite of intense training in these types of shoot-no shoot scenarios, will still get entangled in legal problems surrounding a shooting. Believe it or not, a handgun may actually be less effective at stopping an attacker than a good pepper spray. It is well documented that assailants have been known to kill or seriously injure someone minutes, even hours after being shot with so-called man-stopping ammunition.
Handguns can and do get taken from the intended victim and used against them. It also happens with non-lethal weapons also, but the difference is, one is potentially “deadly”. I watched a YouTube video several months ago, where a police officer literally emptied his 9mm in this boxer, and he not only walked through it. He still managed to give that officer a serious beat-down.
It was unbelievable to see that kind of strength. When I find the clip, I will append it to this posting. If you are somewhat squeamish at the sight of blood, you might just hesitate to your death. In many instances, hesitation is used against the victim.
One last thing you want to remember is the psychological effects and the emotional trauma. I have seen police officers get severely affected, especially if someone is killed. Television doesn’t show the more somber moments in an officer’s life. Most people, (and you may disagree), are not ready for the intense emotional aftermath of killing someone.
When you bring a gun into the picture, it’s a very real possibility. My advice is to go to the range on some type of schedule you set for yourself, and get used to the feel and the sound of your weapon. Take classes also on the proper use of firearms.
With practical education on the use of deadly force, along with trips to the shooting range, you should be better prepared to make the right decision free from legal consequences. Stay safe out there.
