SELF DEFENSE-JOGGING AND WALKING SAFETY

Self defense as it relates to enjoying our outdoor activities during the warmer months, is something that we rarely think about. I walk and get my exercise in like everyone else(sometimes a little slack) and I can’t help but notice serious safety and security issues.

One of them is related to the early risers. You know; the people who head to the track course so early that’s it’s still dark. I see some people in their cars waiting for someone else to arrive before exiting their vehicle. It’s good that they wait of course, but it’s  what could happen next that’s an even bigger issue.

The trail that I frequent is heavily fortified with woods.  This is a predator’s best case scenario. Ladies, if you like to walk or run heavily wooded areas, then please get an exercise partner. How many times have you seen media coverage broadcast the finding of a woman’s body in the woods?

All the time, especially during the hotter months. These same woods were the facilitators of  a rapist who forced a young lady out of her car one night from the parking lot. She was from out of town and though that has no bearing; you especially need to take precaution in a strange and unfamiliar area.  Simply put, whether jogging or pulling on the side of the road at night. You must always be ready for that bad encounter.

I just wanted to briefly comment on roadside dangers because it is an issue, in and of itself.  Now for the joggers and walkers, I want to recommend that you at least purchase a self defense weapon that not only looks like exercise equipment, but also has built in weight resistance. This way you accomplish 2 goals. The first continuing to exercise without bulky devices.

Secondly, your safety is now in your hands, literally and practically.  You can now effectively defend yourself and get to safety. Take the time to invest in your safety and well being, before someone else decides that today is your day. They definitely won’t be thinking about your well being. Prepare today.

  1. Whenever we go outside we really can’t be sure of our safety. Thanks for the facts. We should at least carry some devices for protection like pepper spray.
